He was born in St. Louis, Missouri on May 8, 1928. He had just celebrated his 97th birthday with a room full of new and old friends and it was a happy time.
He moved from St. Louis to Tyler, TX in 1954 with the St. Louis Southwestern Railroad (Cotton Belt) and retired from the same in June, 1990.
He was preceded in death by his Mother, Helen Rothwell Whitmer, and his Father, Albert Ernest Whitmer, and two brothers.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joan Alter Whitmer and son-in-law, John R. Yarbrough.
Private graveside service and final rites were held June 12, 2025 at Memorial Park in Tyler, Texas with Father Cole Hartin of Christ Episcopal Church, Tyler, presiding.
In lieu of flowers donations to the Humane Society of Nacogdoches, TX would be greatly appreciated.
