

Born Alvah Lovell Clevenger on April 21, 1934, in Blackey, Virginia, he was the only child of Clarence and Anne Clevenger.
He met his wife, Gale Montgomery, while stationed at the Air Force base in Biloxi, Mississippi. They married on July 7, 1956. They were married almost 54 years. Al lost both his parents at an early age and loved Gale’s large family as his own.
He is survived by his wife, Gale, and their three children & families: Sons Mark Clevenger & wife Mary of Kingwood, TX, David Clevenger & wife Brenda of Gulf Breeze, FL, and daughter Karen Egger & husband John of Cameron, TX. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Whitney & Phillip Clevenger and Amanda, Christopher, and Laura Egger.
He graduated from the School of Optometry at the University of Houston in 1962 and worked as an Optometrist in Wichita Falls & Nacogdoches for 47 years and served on the board of the Texas Optometric Association.
Al loved antique cars, woodworking, photography, reading, traveling, and spending time with friends and family at their home.
Visitation for friends & family will be held Thursday, June 24, from 5-7 p.m. at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors in Nacogdoches.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 25, at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel in Nacogdoches.
Burial will be at Prien Memorial Park in Lake Charles, LA, with graveside rites at 2 p.m. on Sunday June 27.
