The family of Arthur Leon Boyer, Sr. mourns the passing of an exceptional man and proud adopted son of Texas. Arthur went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, October 15, 2018. Known to his family and friends as “Sonny” or “Arthur”, he passed away one day before his 82nd birthday from complications with his bone cancer treatment. Arthur was born in Sellersville, PA, the son of Arthur P. Boyer and Susie G. Sine Boyer Marone and stepson of Victor Marone. He grew up in Telford, PA and graduated from Souderton Area High School in 1955.
From an early age Arthur learned the importance of two things: the love of family and the value of hard work. Like his father and step father, Arthur proudly served in our nation’s military. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served aboard the USS Leyte (CV-32) as a Navy AO (Aviation Ordnancemen). After receiving an honorable discharge, he returned to Souderton where he met and fell in love with the love of his life, Jeanne Ida Sacks. They married in 1960 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Obelisk, PA. Arthur and Jeanne lived on Hillside Avenue in Souderton for 47 years where they happily raised four children. Arthur was an extremely hard worker, having never missed a day of work. He worked in the steel industry as a Steel Fitter and Welder, first at FMC-Link Belt and then Leonard Kunkin Associates until his retirement.
In retirement, Arthur and Jeanne moved to New Braunfels, Texas to be closer to their daughter. It didn’t take long for the two of them to fully commit to the Texas lifestyle and enjoy all that Texas had to offer. They could be found at the Community Center on Thursday nights where they would listen to live music from local artist or they would simply hang out by the river-taking in the beautiful surroundings. A few years later they moved to Nacogdoches and made the Oldest Town in Texas their home. Arthur and Jeanne celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary prior to Jeanne’s passing in September of 2015.
Arthur had a passion for working with his hands. Whether it was with metal at work, turning wood on the lathe in his wood shop or building balsa wood models airplanes. He was also handy with a hammer and wood saw and would often help family and friends by fixing a busted window, broken porch railing or whatever needed fixing. He passed this passion on to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Arthur also loved watching football…any football. Whether it be pee-wee, high school, college or the NFL, he watched and loved it all. And when it wasn’t football season, he’d watch wrestling, or “wrassling” as he called it!! He was a fan of WWE before there was a WWE. He would laugh so hard while watching “wrassling” on TV that his family frequently mistook his loud boisterous laughing for painful cries as if he was the one in the grasp of Andre the Giant or some other wrestler!
Arthur is survived by his son Arthur Jr. and wife Karen; daughter Teresa and husband Vernon Martin; son Gary; son Ronald and wife Dawn; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; brother Denny and wife Ruth; and sister Linda and husband Jack Wandalowski.
Arthur is preceded in death by his Wife of 55 years, Jeanne Ida Sacks Boyer; his father, Arthur P. Boyer; his mother, Susie Sine Boyer Marone and step father, Victor Marone.
Services will be held at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Obelisk, 3206 Big Rd, Zieglerville, PA on November 24th, 2018 at 11:30 AM. Arthur and Jeanne will be laid to rest as they lived life, forever together. Interment will be at Limerick Garden of Memories, in Limerick, PA, immediately following the service at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors, Nacogdoches.
