

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 11:00 am on Monday, March 7, 2016. Monsignor James Young will be officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Nacogdoches. Pallbearers include Edward LeBlanc lll, Tommy J. Cordova, Jr., R. Keith Cordova, Joseph D. Cordova, MD., Tom Ma, Joe Max Green, Tommy Ellison and Rusty Rust. Honorary pallbearers will be his grand daughters and great granddaughter, Board of Directors of CBTX past and present, and employees of Cordova Construction past and present.
Family and friends are invited to visitation on Sunday, March 6 at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm. Rosary will follow visitation at the funeral home.
Billy Cordova was a direct descendant of Antonio Gil Y’Barbo, founder of Nacogdoches. He graduated Valedictorian of Chireno High School in 1955 and was appointed to West Point. He worked for Citi Service Gas Station for a few years until he started Cordova Construction Company in 1960. He developed his business over the years to include both residential and commercial construction. He was a devoted Roman Catholic and was proud to build over 19 Catholic and churches over his lifetime. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Nacogdoches, Texas.
Billy was the kind of man who enjoyed serving others. He was a member of the Nacogdoches Evening Lions Club where he earned the Monarch Chevron Award for serving 25 years and the Melvin Jones Fellow Award which honored him for a lifetime achievement. He served as President of the Sacred Heart Parish Council, the Diocese of Beaumont Diocesan Board, and the Diocese of Tyler Diocesan Building Board. He received a Papal medal from Pope Paul VI and Bishop Medal from Bishop Warren Boudreaux for outstanding work for church design and construction.
He served as advisor to the Building Trades program at NHS. Billy was a member of Who’s Who in Builders and Designers and was a member of the Board of Directors for Commercial Bank of Texas for 23 years. Billy was the President of Neighborhood Clean. He has a keen mind for business and was an excellent leader in everything he put his hand to.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Billy is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Vonnie Robertson Cordova; (Married on January 20, 1956); children, Billy Cordova, Jr. of Nacogdoches, Tx., Deborah Cordova LeBlanc of Nacogdoches, Tommy L. Cordova and wife Anna of Cypress, Tx.; grandchildren, Edward F. LeBlanc lll and wife Desirea of Etoile, Tx., Hannah LeBlanc of Nacogdoches, Sydney, Claire, Theresa Cordova of Cypress; great granddaughter, McKenzie LeBlanc of Etoile; brothers, Tommy J Cordova, Sr. and wife Margaret of Nacogdoches, Jimmy L. Cordova and wife Evelyn of Chireno, Tx.; sisters-in-law, Jewel Marie Permenter of Nacogdoches, Mattie Schmidt and husband Clifford of Lufkin, Tx., Edith Simpson of Orange, Tx., and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.

Billy H. Cordova, Sr., 78, passed away on March 3, at CHI-Saint Luke's Memorial Center in Lufkin Texas. He was born on April 16, 1937 in Blackjack, Texas to parents Clifton and Katherine Cordova.
