Mr. Cunningham was born July 31, 1931, in Harriman, Tennessee, to parents Clatie Ray Cunningham and Laura Belle Hall Cunningham.
He retired from the United States Navy as a Boiler Technician, Senior Chief after 20 years of service. His family has served a total of 71 years in the United States military from WWI through Vietnam.
He was predeceased by his parents, he was also preceded in death by brothers, Clatie Ray Cunningham Jr., J.C. Cunningham; and sister, Lucille.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years Mary Gilliam Cunningham; sons, David Scott Cunningham and wife Patricia of Houston, Stuart Lee Cunningham and wife Sandra of Houston; brother, BJ Cunningham; grandchildren, Sara and Sam Cunningham; and great-nephews Conner and Cade Gilliam; Others who lived in the Cunningham home were John Frank Gilliam, Frank L Foster, Westley A Plemmons, also surviving are other foster children and numerous nieces nephews and other relatives
