Dan Aubrey Burgess passed away on April 2, 2025, in Nacogdoches, Texas. He was born and raised in Nacogdoches, the son of Carroll Aubrey Burgess and Cecil Dawn (Tipps) Burgess. Born on September 17, 1943, he attained the age of 81 years.
Dan attended K-12th grades in Nacogdoches, graduating in 1961. Then he went on to the University of Texas at Austin and earned his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1965. He went to work with NIBCO in the late 1960s and remained until the early 1980s. This included work in Nacogdoches as well as various other locations. The family then moved to Austin in the 1980s and he became a realtor of Commercial Real Estate. Upon retirement in 2015, they returned to Nacogdoches.
At Nacogdoches High School, Dan was class president and a four-year letterman in football, basketball, baseball and track. His all-district and all-state accolades helped land him an athletic scholarship to the University of Texas at Austin in football where he played under coach Darrell Royal. Something he was very proud of! Dan was a life-long Longhorn fan as well as a member of the athlete mentorship program at UT. He was an avid hunter and fisherman with fly fishing for trout in the Rocky Mountains being his passion. He loved the outdoors and introduced so many people in his life to his passions. In his final years, he enjoyed spending time on his farm, tending the cows and farm needs (even when he had no business still being out on his tractor). With a laugh, charm and personality larger than life, Dan had a gift that attracted others to him and in return, you had a friend for life. He loved his family and friends; and they loved him.
He is survived by his wife, Ginger Worsham Voorheese Burgess; son, Scott Burgess and wife, Carrie Eko-Burgess; daughter, Jana Burgess Stauffer and husband, Barry Stauffer; grandkids, Max Burgess and Mia Burgess, Haddon Stauffer and Hudson Stauffer; his sisters, Sue Burgess Atkins and husband, Gary Atkins, and Lynn Burgess Clark and husband, Doug Clark; stepson, Andrew Worsham and wife, Tiffany Worsham and their daughter Amy JoLee Worsham; grandson, Quint Middlebrook and numerous nephews and nieces.
Dan is preceded in death by his wife, Lynne Mann Burgess and son, Steve Burgess, as well as parents, Carroll Aubrey Burgess and Cecil Dawn Burgess.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, 4-9-2025 in the Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Home. Pastor Dale Morton and Pastor Mark Mann will be officiating. A reception will follow in the South Hall. A private graveside will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Nacogdoches, Texas.
