

Deloris Crisp Barfield, 90, was born December 10, 1930 in Appleby, Texas to Thomas Whitley and Dee Boatman Crisp, and passed away December 27, 2020. She attended Nacogdoches ISD, and rather than attend her last year of high school, she accepted an offer for full time work at Striplings Drug Store to help her mother and younger siblings.
She married the love of her life, Clyde N. "Shug" Barfield, Sr. on November 12, 1948 and celebrated 70 years and 8 months of marriage before his death on July 31, 2019.
Once her children were school age, she began working for Houston ISD where she retired after 25 years service. Deloris's faithful service to The Lord and true love of her family as a devoted wife, deeply caring Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother will be remembered along with her kindness and generosity. Deloris, or DeDe to all her "Grands", never missed sending birthday, Christmas, or anniversary cards to them all.
Deloris was a member of North Central Baptist Church in Houston, New Faith Baptist Church and University Baptist Church both in Nacogdoches. She was a lifetime member of the Ladies Aux VFW Post 3893 where she served in various positions.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Shug; brothers, Jim Crisp and wife Reba, WH “Bill” Crisp and wife Margaret, Talmadge Crisp and wife Peggy Jo, Johnny Crisp and wife Margie, Tom Crisp and wife Wynell; sisters, Mary Cleo Monaghan and husband Charles, Anna Jenell Runnels and husband Eddie; sons-in-law, Don Karr and Lamont Freeman; brothers-in-law, Carl H. Barfield, Jr., Calvin Robbins and J.D. Cook; sister-in-law, Laverne Barfield and several nephews.
She is survived by: son, Clyde Nelson Barfield, Jr. and wife Janice; her daughters, Brenda Barfield Karr, Susan Barfield LaPoint and husband Steve, and Carol Barfield Freeman; her grandchildren, Holli Barfield Young (Chris), Kalico Karr Leech (Cody), Amy LaPoint Engel (Matt), Amy Lee Woodward, Kara Barfield deVries, Kassidy Karr Sherrill (Kevin), Sarah LaPoint Perkins (Ben) and Philip M. Barfield (Jennifer); and 15 great grandchildren; sisters, Shirley Robbins and MaryAnn Melchoirson and husband Bill; brother-in-law, George C. Barfield Sr., sisters-in-law, Peggy Barfield Cook and Joyce Barfield McSwain (Aubie); and many precious nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. Uthamalingam and staff, Jordan Home Health/Elara Caring, Nacogdoches Fire Department, EMS Services and Flight for Life for their dedicated care and compassion.
The family will receive friends, Saturday, January 2, 2021, from 1:00 until 2:00 PM, with a service to begin at 2:00 PM, Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
