

Mr. Donald Burl “Donnie” ”Moose” Martin, age 69, passed away at his residence surrounded by his family on September 15, 2014. He was born on August 8, 1945 in Rusk, Texas to parents Willie Burl and Mary Florence Martin.
His funeral service is scheduled on Friday, September 19, at 2:00 pm at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel. Preacher David Coleman of Trinity Baptist Church will be officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Jeff Orand, Robert Wilburn, Bo Scott, Gregg Briley, Zach Hopson and David Stone. Friends and family are invited to visitation from 6:00 – 8:00 pm on Thursday, September 18 at the funeral home.
Mr. Martin is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Rita Martin, Ellen Wheeler; brother, Johnnie Martin and infant niece.
Donnie is survived by his loving wife of 17 years Kathi “HoneyLou” Martin of Nacogdoches; son, Matthew Burl Martin of Nacogdoches; daughter, Tese Stone and husband David of Nacogdoches; step-son, Michael Wallace of Waxahachie, Tx.: grandchildren, Misti Cranford, Brittani Stone and fiancé, Jordan Cranford, ShyAnne Stone, great grandson, Kage Cranford; sister, Sue Murphree of Scottsdale, Arizona; brother, Robert Martin and wife Jean of Denver, Colorado; and nieces and nephews.
Donnie was known to his family and friends as “Moose”. If you knew Moose you know he never met a stranger. He was well liked by everyone he met. His great love was coaching baseball for the local Dixie league and sharing sports activities with his grandkids. You might even see him on the sidelines letting the coaches know how to call the game! He loved baseball, NASCAR, football and working on motors and cars.When time permitted he could be found fishing on his favorite lake or hunting in the woods. He loved guns and collected them and made his own shells and was a member of the NRA.
He made his career working for NIBCO and was the Department Manager of the tool room and retired after 43 years. Although his life seems all to short he lived it to it’s fullest letting those around him know they were loved. He will be missed.
