

Scottie is survived by her children, Russell S. Brewster of Nacogdoches, Michael R. Brewster of Dripping Springs, Texas, and William D. Brewster and wife Lori of Lewisville, Texas; her brother Tom Scott and his wife Tania of San Mateo, California, her sister Nancy Ferrell and husband Harold of Columbia, Tennessee, and her sister-in-law Jane Scott of Tomball, Texas. Scottie is preceded in death by siblings Jack Scott of Tomball, and Jo Barron of South Houston, Texas.
Scottie was born on April 12, 1931 in Silsbee, Texas to Leonard Waymon “L.W.” Scott Sr. and Mary Elma Scott. She graduated from Navasota High School in 1948, where she was the first chair coronet in the marching band. She continued her education at the University of Houston and the University of Texas at Galveston where she earned her bachelor of science degree. Scottie also graduated with her nursing degree (R.N.) from Jefferson Davis Hospital School of Nursing in Houston in 1951.
While attending Jefferson Davis Hospital School of Nursing, Scottie met Charles H. Brewster, M.D., a rotating resident at the hospital. They were married in 1957 in a small ceremony in Dallas. After raising a family for 19 years, they divorced in 1976.
Scottie began her career in the mid-1950s working as an Instructor in Obstetrical Nursing at Parkland Hospital in Dallas. After time taken off to raise her three boys, she returned to Parkland as an Adjunct Instructor for 16 years (1975-1991) in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, specializing in fetal monitoring and induction management.
After retirement from Parkland, she dedicated countless hours to the Duncanville Police Department's Citizens on Patrol organization in Duncanville, Texas, being recognized as the Citizen On Patrol of the Year in 2001. In 2006, "Miss Scottie" attended the Nacogdoches Citizen's Police Academy (CPA), later becoming active in the CPA Alumni Association. “Miss Scottie” became a charter member of the Nacogdoches Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) in 2008, contributing to the fraud unit and records section. She volunteered many hours working special events such as parades and festivals. She remained active until 2013.
Scottie greatly loved her relationships with doctors, nurses, and other medical personnel that she encountered during her career. She loved the friends she made and responsibilities she held while volunteering with police departments. She greatly loved her dogs throughout her life, including Smokey, Brownie, Nitro, Tiger, Brutus, Scout, Archie, and Samson. She was passionate about sports, and treasured her time coaching the Parkland Labor and Delivery softball team.
A memorial service is planned at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors in Nacogdoches on February 20 (time to be determined). All are welcome to attend and celebrate Scottie’s life.
