

She was born in Tyler, Texas, to Pickens and Elizabeth Pinkerton on August 18, 1931. Dorothy graduated from Tyler Junior College where she was a Tyler Rose Princess, and the University of Texas in Austin. Her graduate studies continued at University of Colorado Teacher’s College and then East Texas Baptist University. She taught school in New London and Hallsville where she was the basketball coach. She went on to work in Marshall and later retired from the State of Texas Attorney General’s Office.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Pickens Caldwell and Elizabeth Pirtle Pinkerton of Tyler; son, Bill H.R. Sessions of Grand Saline; and daughter, Virginia Montes of Nacogdoches. She was also preceded in death by brothers Pickens, Travis (Speedy), and Dr. Justin Pinkerton.
She is survived by a sister, Virginia Buchanan of Tyler; brother, Newt Pinkerton of Dallas; and sister-in-law, Shirley Brown Pinkerton of Tyler; and many nieces and nephews and their children.
Her surviving children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren are: Susie and husband Mason Poe of Richmond, Virginia, and granddaughter Vanessa of Houston and grandson Barrett and wife Marium and great-granddaughter Maya of Chesterfield, VA; Karen Tucker of Nacogdoches and grandsons Wyatt Tucker and fiancé Ginger Hamilton of Houston and Will Tucker of Nacogdoches.; Marion and husband Kelly King, of Nacogdoches, and granddaughter Brandi White and husband Chris White, of Nacogdoches, and great grandchildren Travis and Garrett, and grandson Brent and wife Ronnie King, of Alabama and great granddaughter Launa; son-in-law, Eli Montes of Nacogdoches and granddaughter Amber and husband John Grigsby of Lufkin and great-granddaughters Alexis, Madison and Taylor; and grandson Ryan Sluterbeck and wife Nicole of Lubbock; Richard and wife Lisa Sessions of Houston; and Michael and wife Robin Sessions of Tyler and granddaughters Carlie and Chelsea.
Dorothy served with delight as a “Pink Lady” for Memorial Hospital Auxiliary volunteers at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital for 14 years. She enjoyed over 12,000 volunteer hours. Mother loved to cook for the doctors and staff while volunteering in the surgery waiting room there, especially desserts. She served as president of the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary three times and served as a docent at the Old Nacogdoches University Building. Dorothy was a member of First Christian Church and enjoyed singing in the choir. She also was a member and held offices in AARP and Texas Extension Education Association of Nacogdoches.
The family would like to thank Dr. Olin Fearing, Dr. Muir , Dr. Mark Randel, Dr. Shannon Smith, Dr. Hashim and Pulmonary and Sleep Associates, special friend Beverly DeWitt Murphy, staff at Oak Manor Nursing Home, SNG Dialysis Center, Hospice of East Texas and Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital for their continued care for Ms. Dorothy. A special thanks for her church family, First Christian Church for their concern and prayers.
The family will receive friends Saturday, October 5, 2013, from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at First Christian Church, 702 N. Mound Street, Nacogdoches, Texas, with a Celebration of Life service immediately following at 2:00 p.m. at the church.
