A life-long resident of the Nacogdoches area, Dovie worked as a nurse’s aide in nursing homes and as a poultry farmer. Her main passion in life was watching her kids grow up as a full-time mom. She enjoyed collecting items such as ceramics, chickens, Avon bottles, and clocks. Raised in the Pentecostal Church, she later attended Baptist Churches after marrying her first husband, Dan.
Dovie was an avid sewer, quilter, gardener, and enjoyed cross-stitching. She also enjoyed playing 42. She could play the slot machines all night, and she would even sneak off on her own to play. Her family says that she was very lucky, as she’s the only person they know to have won $1000 off a $1 scratch-off lottery ticket…twice! She made a lasting impression on everyone she met. If she gave advice, you would be wise to listen. She took joy in helping her family by babysitting her grandchildren.
