Eunice W Walker passed gently into the presence of the Lord on Saturday, the 5th of August, 2023. Born in Miami, Florida on the 1st of September 1931, to parents, Sarah Louise Edmondson, and Shirley Stuart Watler. She was so tiny her baby bed was a small drawer.
During the great depression, the service station that Shirley and his Cayman friend owned in Miami had to close. He found employment with Gulf Oil, and move the family to Port Arthur, Texas in 1933. Later that year, Thomas Ray was born and then in 1937 welcomed Nancy Louise. Eunice’s mom told her she could name her sister. Eunice decided to name her Nancy after her rag doll, which later Nancy said how relieved she was!
When Eunice‘s paternal grandfather passed away in 1946, the family left for the Cayman Islands on a banana boat. They stayed for several months with her grandma Eunice, and aunt Effie. She had so many wonderful memories from that time in her life.
Eunice went through the Port Arthur school system and graduated from Thomas Jefferson.school in 1950. She went on to graduate from Port Arthur business college and went to work for an insurance company, Mingle Motors, and then for Dr. G.R. Solis which she greatly enjoyed. After a few years, she decided to move to Houston and went to work for a small travel agency, and finally Johnson’s travel agency in downtown Houston. She shared an apartment with her sister Nancy, who is also working as a travel agent. While employed by the travel agency, Eunice enjoyed traveling overseas to England and Tahiti, and returning to the Cayman Islands whenever she could to see her family.
In 1973, while in a cafeteria line in Houston she ran into a classmate from Port Arthur, Carl Michael Walker. She had sat behind him in classes for years with the last names being Watler and Walker, graduating together in 1950. It was not long after that meeting that they married, and blessed our family with a loving and nurturing mother for his three children. She moved to Laguna Vista Texas, and worked many years for the Tiki condominiums on South Padre Island, until she retired.
Eunice was an avid reader, always with a book in her hand. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, crochet, and cooking. She especially loved cooking for her family gatherings, and baking cookies for the grandkids. She loved her pets dearly.
Eunice was raised in the Presbyterian faith and enjoyed services at first Presbyterian Church in Nacogdoches.
Eunice spent her life in service to the Lord and her family. She was loved by many and will be dearly missed.
