OBITUARY

Florence Stanley Decker

March 21, 1923November 12, 2020

Florence Stanley Decker passed away on November 12, 2020 in Nacogdoches at the age of 97. She was born on March 21, 1923 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, the ninth of eleven children of the late Edward C. and Ella Pearl West Stanley.

She was a devoted mother, wife and homemaker. Throughout her life Florence was dedicated to her family and church. She was an accomplished pianist and organist and always available for playing either whenever needed. She began playing at churches she attended when she was 13 and retired from that role at the age of 79. She and her husband John P. Decker were one of the founding members of Austin Heights Baptist Church in Nacogdoches. She also served as a volunteer at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital for many years.

She married John P. Decker on May 2, 1951 and they had two sons before moving to Nacogdoches in 1965. He preceded her in death in 2018 but not before he tirelessly took care of her as their health declined. She was also preceded in death by all of her brothers and sisters, Ruby Baugh, Everett Stanley, Eugene Stanley, Edward Stanley Jr, Goldie Lewis, Pearlie Childress, John Stanley and three siblings who died at a young age. She is survived by her two sons, Stan Decker (Nancy Falk) of Houston and John Decker of Nacogdoches.

A memorial service will be held at a future date.
