

A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, October 4 at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church, 411 North Street, Nacogdoches, 75965 with Dr. Allen Reed officiating. Military Rites will be offered by the United States Air Force. A private inurnment will be planned by the family at a later date.
Dr. Hunt is preceded in death by his grandparents and parents.
George’s survivors include his wife Dree Hunt; daughter, Keli Lawrence and husband Boone, sons, Andrew Hunt and wife Kelly, Orren Hunt and wife May; grandchildren, Langston Lawrence, Linley Lawrence, Aiden Hunt, Skyleigh Hunt; sisters Shirley Carroll and husband Paul, Marynell Kaufman and husband Larry, Linda Brown and husband Cliff.
Dr. George L. Hunt was a graduate of Parkway High School in St. Chesterfield, Missouri. Upon graduation he joined the United States Air Force and served for 4 years during the Vietnam War. Later, he attended Texas A&M and graduated with his first Bachelor of Accounting, Magna Cum Laude in 1978. He continued building his educational career. Dr. Hunt earned a BS from Texas State in 1990, a M.PA from Texas State in 1995 and a Ph. D from Texas Tech in 2006. In addition, he holds certifications in CPA, CIA, CMA, and CFE. He was currently acting Interim Director of Gerald W. Schlief School of Accountancy.
Dr. Hunt had a love for learning, teaching and people. He himself was always learning something new and liked sharing that information with his friends and took special interest tending to his grandchildren and family. Many of his peers and students admired him as a compassionate teacher. Dr. Hunt never met a stranger and people were often drawn to him. He appreciated the simple things. When George had free time he could be found out in the great outdoors fishing and tending to birds and animals or frequent travels to the beach in his RV camper. After their nest was empty he and Dree were never apart. They traveled together keeping tabs on their kids and enjoying their days together. He will be greatly missed and leaves a legacy of finding the beauty in learning.
