Born on September 14, 1927 in Bearden, Arkansas to Dave and Maude Anthony Williams, she was 98 years old when she passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2026 at The Arbor in Nacogdoches, Texas.
Helen was a beloved sister, mother, grandmother, and friend. After earning a degree in Education from Stephen F. Austin University, she taught English at various elementary schools for many years. She was remembered by students for her love of the English language and a deep appreciation for grammar. In 1948 She married James O Pike. They moved to Orange, Texas, where they had their first son, John David, in 1955. Subsequently they moved to the Baton Rouge area where son James Edward was born in 1958. In1961 the family moved to the Sour Lake/Beaumont area. Helen was a strong believer and loved serving her Savior at home and in the community. She joined the First Baptist Sour Lake Church, where she played the organ on Sunday mornings across many faithful years. In 1991, Helen and James moved to Nacogdoches to be near her large extended family.
Helen loved the history of women in the early American republic (she was a devoted member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Colonial Dames). Helen enjoyed good Mexican food, especially cheese enchiladas. Her family will miss so many things about her, including her wit, her famous gumbo and chocolate chip cookies, and the sight of her with a cup of coffee and a crossword puzzle. Helen was an avid Houston Astros and Dallas Cowboy fan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Pike of 71 years; her brothers, Roy, Charles, and W.A. (Lanky) Williams; sisters, Lennie Honea, Opal Lightfoot and Anne Laibson, as well as her son James Edward Pike and several nieces and nephews including Harry Williams, Gerald Williams and Alice Faye Tynes.
