

He leaves his wife of 34 years, Vickie (Gibson) Poe; his daughter, Carrie Poe of Waco; his daughter Christie Poe and her partner, Michael Peel, of Schertz,
and their two children, Samuel Benton and Reese Andrew. He also leaves his brother, Larry “Rusty” Poe and wife, Judy, of Martinsville; his brother
John “Sandy” Poe and wife, Karen, of Houston; his sister Charlene (Poe) Chumley and husband Don, of Nacogdoches; his brother Donald “D.G.” Poe and
wife JoAnn, of Lafayette, Louisiana; his sister, Lisa Ann (Poe) Bilbo and her husband Matt, of Austin; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and close friends.
Born and raised in Nacogdoches County, Mr. Poe was the first-born son of Howard Winston and Charlotte (Martin) Poe Sr. of Nacogdoches. He was the
grandson of Paschal and Bernardine (Fuller) Martin of Martinsville, and William Alva and Effie Batman Poe of Louisiana.
Mr. Poe attended Nacogdoches High School where he was an active member in FFA. He was also an involved athlete, participating in football, basketball
and baseball during his high school years.
After graduating from Nacogdoches High School in 1963, he attended Stephen F. Austin State University part-time while also working as a foundry
supervisor at Nibco. From 1970 to 1971, he served as a Medical Specialist for the U.S. Army in South Korea. For his service, Mr. Poe was awarded the
National Defense Service Medal, the SPS M-16 medal for marksmanship, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and the Army Good Conduct Medal.
Returning home to Nacogdoches, Mr. Poe resumed his studies, graduating in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology.
Mr. Poe worked for over 3 decades in the offshore drilling industry. He began work on offshore oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico as a roustabout and quickly
advanced to the positions of barge engineer and toolpusher. As his career continued, he traveled widely and worked in supervisory positions all over the
world in the offshore drilling industry. He retired in 2014.
In 1981 he met his wife, Vickie, and they married in Houston in May of that year. Shortly thereafter they moved back to Nacogdoches where they raised their
family. They are members of Calvary Baptist Church in Nacogdoches. In 2011 they moved to Canyon Lake, Texas, where they planned to live after
retirement.
Mr. Poe was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He hunted and fished all over Texas and Louisiana, and made several hunting trips to Wyoming as well.
Brother Don Chumley, of Spring Hill Baptist Church, will serve as officiant of the service. Pallbearers will be Brant Poe, Grey Chumley, Andrew Poe, Jared
Chandler, Todd Fountain, and Michael Peel. Honorary Pallbearers will be Tommy Lynn Fountain, Billy N. Curbow, and Dave Chalker.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 10, 2015, at Cason Monk-Metcalf’s Sunset Chapel in Nacogdoches. Visitation will be Thursday, July
9, 2015, from 6 to 8 p.m. There will then be a short graveside service at Elm Grove Cemetery in Martinsville, followed by a reception at Spring Hill Baptist Church.
