Inez LaMerle Scarborough was born February 7, 1932, in Nacogdoches, TX. Her mother and father, Clarence and Lola Lewis, as well as her only sibling, Darlene Haltom, preceded her in death. Her husband of 67 years, Cleon M. Scarbrough, also preceded her in death. LaMerle is survived by her only child, Dean M. Scarborough, and wife, Joy Scarborough; three grandchildren, Jason, Brandon, and Hunter; eight great-grandchildren, Brooke, Rayne, Maddox, Olivia, Lyric, Izzy, Sophie, and James; and two great-great-grandchildren, Mavis and Coraliee.
LaMerle was born and raised in Nacogdoches, where, in high school, she was named "Miss Beautiful." She worked at a local bank, where she met her future husband, Cleon Scarborough, whom she would end up spending her entire life with.
A good friend said this of her: "A lot of bright light came from that little woman," and we agree. LaMerle was a talented artist who loved drawing, painting, and working her puzzles. She loved the Dallas Cowboys so much that she recorded the games to rewatch them, even when they were losing. LaMerle loved going to and having garage sales. She loved John Wayne and old westerns and was very "old school" in that way.
She spent her entire life taking care of her family. She loved to cook and was the best friend to anyone who was hungry. One of the first things she would ask was, "Are you hungry? Do you want me to make you something to eat?" LaMerle made the best sweet tea, and really anything she made was great.
LaMerle was easy to talk to and loved to gossip, probably because she loved the old soaps like General Hospital. She was not afraid to say her piece and always pushed for what was right. She never stopped believing people could change or do better. Enough cannot be said for how much she has done for others over her 94 years of life. She was the kindest, sweetest, toughest little lady who loved and was loved. God bless LaMerle. We are all very grateful for the time we got to share with her.
