Jackie was born on January 22, 1954, in Davenport, Iowa; the daughter of Donald and Jeanne (Kremheller) McLatchie. Jackie graduated from Mitchell High School in Colorado Springs, Colorado and later attended and graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University, Nacogdoches, Texas, with a B.S. in Computer Science.
Jackie loved the theatre and started performing in community theater as a child. She spent hundreds of hours volunteering at the Nacogdoches Lamp-Lite Theatre. She took on the tasks of stage manager, box office manager, seamstress and costumer, Board Member - treasurer, as well as acting in numerous productions. Some of her favorite acting roles were Ethel in On Golden Pond, and the Mother Superior in Nun Sense. She enjoyed Shakespeare and musicals and attended the theatre as often as possible.
Jackie endured with quiet dignity a battle with cancer, which was diagnosed in December 2020. She had been thwarting this ailment for five years, thanks to the excellent care at MD Anderson. She participated in drug trials, which entailed numerous extra trips to Houston for additional scans, blood tests, and exams to possibly help other cancer patients in the future. Through her cancer journey, she taught those around her what it looks like to live bravely and always with joy and a smile.
Jackie retired from Stephen F Austin State University as a computer programmer in 2020. Her goal in retirement was to cruise. In between cancer treatments she managed to go on four road trips and 15 cruises to exotic places such as Alaska, Hawaii, the Caribbean, Iceland and the British Isles. She often took her children, family and friends along to share her joy in cruising.
Jackie was a wonderful mother to three sons and was a creator of many magical moments for her family. Her children were her pride and joy and her most treasured accomplishment. Jackie’s children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were blessed by her nurturing nature, guidance, and unconditional love.
Jackie’s radiant spirit is carried on by her three sons, Richard (wife, Rhiannon), Raymond (wife, Jennifer), Craig (wife, Becca) Vose, her grandchildren, Katie (husband, Jordan) Fielder, Jamie (husband, Ian) Dierflinger, Haylee, Kylee, Ryleigh and Donald Vose and great grandchildren Mason and Braxton Fielder and Lily and Moira Dierflinger.
Jackie was predeceased by her parents Donald and Jeanne McLatchie and is survived by her siblings Steven, Kathleen and Judith.
Jackie embodied the best of qualities: unconditional love, kindness, strength of spirit, and an unending generosity. She was known for her delight in the smallest things. Jackie will forever be a bright, guiding light to her family and friends. She will be dearly missed.
A memorial dedicated to the celebration of the life of Jackie will be held at a later date.
