James Edward “Ed” Pike passed away at the age of 54 at the James Cancer Hospital in Columbus, Ohio on Sunday November 18, 2012. Ed resided in nearby Galena, Ohio at the time of his death.

Ed is survived by his wife of 23 years, Joy Tomlinson Pike, children Daniel (19), Mackenzie (16), and Trevor (5), all residents of Ohio; parents, James O. and Helen Williams Pike of Nacogdoches, Texas; brother, John D. Pike, and sister-in-law, Mary Willis Pike, of Tomball, Texas; nieces, Julia Pike-Kelly of Houston, Texas, and Laura Pike Seeley of Dallas, Texas; mother-in-law Bettie Adair Tomlinson of Irving, Texas; and many cousins.

Ed was born November 8, 1958, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to James O. and Helen Williams Pike and had one older brother John. At an early age the family moved to Sour Lake, Texas, where he went to school and graduated from Hardin-Jefferson High School in 1977. Ed developed dedicated friendships there that remained strong throughout his life.

After high school he moved to Nacogdoches attending Stephen F. Austin University while living with his beloved Aunt Opal and Uncle John Lightfoot. Nacogdoches was a second home to Ed, as he had spent childhood summers and holidays there with other aunts and uncles, including his precious Aunt Ann and Uncle Joe Laibson. His uncle Lanky Williams gave him his first job as a teenager at his lumber yard. From his teens into adulthood Ed went quail hunting with his parents, brother, uncles, and cousins. These experiences developed his love for hunting dogs, and he had an English setter almost continually for the remainder of his life.

Ed completed college at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, earning a BS Degree in Accounting in 1983. Following graduation, Ed began his career as an accountant in Dallas, Texas, and began attending First Baptist Church. It was there that Ed met his wife Joy and where the couple was married in 1989. Ed went on to earn a CPA License and moved to San Antonio, Texas, in 1998 continuing his career at USAA Financial. In 2005 Ed’s career brought him to the Columbus, Ohio, area where he was Principal of Financial Operations for Foreside Financial Group.

A visitation will be held Friday, November 23, from 6-8 p.m. at Cason Monk-Metcalf in Nacogdoches Texas. Funeral services are scheduled Saturday, November 24, with Dr. Allen Reed officiating, in the Chapel at First Baptist Church in Nacogdoches at 11:00 a.m. Graveside services will follow at Nacogdoches Sunset Memorial Park where Ed will be laid to rest near cherished Aunts and Uncles.

Joy, I knew Ed many years ago. I sent you a message on Facebook. Work took me through Nacogdoches and I wondered how he was doing. I am so very saddened to hear of his passing and my condolences are with you and your family. He was such a great guy.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. I met Ed in the early 80s while working at Texas Commerce Bank in Beaumont, TX. We had several accounting classes, and studied together at Lamar University. He was one the wittiest people that I've ever met. I will always remember him as a true gentleman, whose integrity was beyond reproach.

I knew Ed, firstly, as John's little brother and, secondly, as Mrs. Pike's youngest son. Saddened to learn of his passing. Praying that God grants comfort and peace to the whole family.

Ed and I were classmates 2nd-12th grade. We continued to stay in touch when he lived in Dallas. Ed was loved by all who knew him. He was best at putting a smile on your face. He will be missed. I pray for comfort for the family.

I am so sorry for your loss. I knew the Pike family for many years as they were part of the First Baptist Church family of Sour Lake, Texas. Please tell Helen and James that I am also thinking of them at this time. May God's love comfort you all at this time.
