Jane was a proud graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University, where she earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees in education. It was at SFA where she met the love of her life, Don Wyatt. They were married on June 3, 1967 in First Baptist Church in Nacogdoches.
Jane was a dedicated teacher who touched the lives of many children over the years both in Nacogdoches public schools and the 2nd grade Sunday school class at First Baptist Church, but her most cherished role was that of mother to her three sons.
Jane loved to entertain and cook for a crowd, especially family. Her hospitality was well known and appreciated by family and friends alike; there was always room for another place at the table. She enjoyed traveling anywhere with Don, searching for unique finds at antique stores, enjoying the beauty of God’s creation, and discovering new places to eat. Jane was passionate about reading and would regularly have multiple books going at once. She loved spending time at Fern Lake whether sitting on the swing with Don, redecorating again, or fishing with her boys. Jane had a lighthearted approach to life. With a quick smile and sharp wit, she shared her joy through love and humor.
To her sons, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren she set an example of a selfless, God-fearing wife, mother, mother-in-law, and Nana by living out her faith unashamedly. Jane loved selflessly, gave sacrificially and joyfully, showing her heart by quietly serving in the background, the epitome of servanthood. In every season, through each trial of her life, Jane remained faithful to the Lord.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Don Wyatt; her sons, Robert Wyatt and his wife Kelly, Stephen Wyatt and his wife Anna, and John Wyatt and his wife Erin; as well as her cherished grandchildren Madison, Jackson, Lillian, Paxton, Ruby, Hattie Madge, John Thatcher, Maude, Paul, and James Wyatt. She is also survived by her sister, Sarah Camp and her husband Ron, and their daughter Michal Kimball.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Madge Strickland.
Jane will be deeply missed by all who knew her, remembered for her kind heart, her gentle wisdom, and her unwavering faith and love for her family.
A visitation for Jane will be held Saturday, January 18, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors, 5400 North Street, Nacogdoches, TX 75965. A private graveside service will be held at Sunset Memorial Park Nacogdoches, Texas.
