Jerry Dale Furra, 80, passed away peacefully in Nacogdoches, TX, Monday morning, April 2, 2018. He was born to Robert T. Furra and Verna Parker Furra on December 20, 1937, at home on Flower Mountain, Nacogdoches County, Texas. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Jerry began his career with Western Electric which merged into Southwestern Bell and retired after 42 years of dedicated service. After retirement, he very much enjoyed gardening, and had a large vegetable garden. Jerry also enjoyed spending time with his coffee shop buddies at The Country Kitchen.
He is survived by his daughters, Debbie Furra and Sherry Matlock and husband David; 3 grandchildren, Jonathon Reynolds and wife Laura, J’Nai Reynolds and Seth Matlock; 3 great-grandchildren, Chloe Reynolds, Gracie Reynolds and Ethan Reynolds; 2 brothers, Carl Furra and Billy Furra; numerous nieces, nephews, and special friend, Nanette Abernathy.
He is preceded in death by: his parents and wife, Shirley Vardeman Furra.
Funeral Services will be held, 1:00 PM, Wednesday, April 4, 2018, Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel. Interment will follow at Isabell Chapel Cemetery in Mt. Enterprise. Pastor William E. Fuller officiating. The family will receive friends, 5:00 until 7:00 PM, Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be: Tommy Furra, Carl Furra, Jr., Derwin Furra, David Matlock, Jimmy Francis, and Bill Rogers. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Bryant Birdwell, Danny Holcomb, James Lostracco, Bob Sitton, Norman Stewart, Mike Tarpley, Harvell Vaught and others that have gone on before him.
