Jimmy Carlton Broom, age 74, of Nacogdoches, Texas passed away on Friday, September 23, 2022 in Nacogdoches. He was born September 15, 1948, in Vernon, Texas to parents Norman A. Broom and Ruby (Carlton) Broom.
Jim loved his family, his friends, football, baseball, rodeo and westerns. He was an All State high school football player at Carthage High School where he graduated in 1967. He later played on the 1969 National Championship baseball team at Panola College. Jim worked as a court reporter in Anderson County, and as a restaurant manager who never met a stranger. He was a cowboy who loved to rope, and took great pleasure in every rodeo and basketball game in which his children participated. He just might have known every line in the westerns he regularly enjoyed.
Mr. Broom was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Hilda Stanley Broom of Nacogdoches; son, J.C. Broom of Midland; daughter, Jessica Broom Rucker and husband Cory of Nacogdoches; sister, Martha Rae Luedtke; brother, Norman A. Broom, Jr. and wife Delia; aunt, Margaret Daphon Gebhardt; and brother-in-law, Sammy R. Stanley.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, September 28, 2022 from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors, 5400 North Street in Nacogdoches. Following the visitation will be a graveside service at 11:30 a.m. at Douglass Cemetery in Douglass, Texas.
Serving as pallbearers will be Leslie Broom, Prell Broom, Janson Broom, Dustin Harper, David Lowery, Richard Gerard, Billy Miller, and David Gregory.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Love, Inc. or First United Methodist Church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors, Nacogdoches.
