Johnnie Lee Clack, born March 15, 1943, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2021. He was born to Arlene and Billy Berry Clack. Johnnie is survived by his wife Beatrice Ann Clack and son Billy Russell Clack, and by his sisters Jeannie Day and Rhonda Barnes. The cause of death was a Large B-cell Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma of the brain, of which he had been fighting for almost four years.
Johnnie was born in Albuquerque New Mexico and was a graduate of Highlands University with an Associates of Electronics degree. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a Specialist 4. He was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War as an electrician watching over the Army’s nuclear warhead.
He was married to his wife for 39 years after meeting her at a subway sandwich shop he was managing in Plano, TX. His favorite place on the planet was Sandia Peak in New Mexico. He was an amazing husband and father. He would attend every music recital and sports game for his son, and was constantly present in his family’s lives doing his best to make sure they knew they were loved and he was there to support them always.
He worked on the customization of hot rods from 1930’s models and up. His cars have won numerous awards at national and local hot rod shows. He had been running his own business, Clack’s Street Rod Shop, for the past 30+ years. He was a jack of all trades and a creative man, including the development of the one-piece windshield for 30’s and 40’s street rods which could be seen throughout hot rod magazines and shows across the country. He was a lifetime member of the Lone Star Street Rod Association and a member of the National Street Rod Association.
Johnnie was an incredible friend. Often his friends would comment that Johnnie would give them the shirt off his back if they needed it. He also never met a stranger; he was there for anybody in need that crossed his path. If he saw his friends walking alongside the road, he would ask them where they were going and give them a ride and would tell them never walk alone again. One of his favorite joys in life was attending car shows and standing in one place talking to his group of friends for hours on end. If anyone needed his help, they could find him in his shop where he would drop everything to listen and help them out however he could.
Johnnie was an avid sports fan, especially the SFA Lumberjacks. He attended the SFA football, basketball, and baseball games whenever he could and always supported SFA teams no matter what. He was also a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fans and loved the Cowboys unconditionally, no matter touchdown or fumble.
He loved to fly kites on his birthdays and would look forward to that every year. He also enjoyed crossword puzzles, never missing a daily puzzle in the newspapers every morning before work.
Johnnie is resting in peace and will continue to support all of those he loved and all his sports teams while he walks along his new path.
A celebration of life will be held, 11-4 PM, June 19, 2021, Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Home, 5400 North Street, Nacogdoches, Texas 75965.
