Funeral Service for Joseph Daniel Brandon, 81, of Texarkana, Texas will be held on Friday, September 27, 2019 at 11:00 am at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel officiated by Rev. Hal Haltom and Rev. D.R. McNaughton. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park officiated by Sidney Brandon.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am – 11:00 am at the funeral home prior to the service.
Mr. Brandon was born June 17, 1938, in Troup, Texas to parents Curtis and Effie (Fowler) Brandon. He passed away on September 25, 2019, in Texarkana, Texas.
Joseph was brought up by devout Christian parents. He attended Southwestern University at Waxahachie, Texas and earned his A.A. and B.S. degrees. He later attended Texas A&M University studying English and Education. He also earned a Doctorate of Divinity. He spent fifty years in Christian ministry and authored three books. Mr. Brandon was the first substitute teacher in Texarkana, Texas to be awarded with Teacher of the Year honors.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dorothy Nutt; and brother, Titus Brandon.
Joseph is survived by his daughter, Sheila Farina; grandson, Anthony Prentice; granddaughter, Janelle Prentice; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Lois Bracken, Eunice Humphrey; brothers, Sidney Brandon and Johnny Brandon; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are under the direction of Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors.
