Kay met Doyle when he was working as a contractor in 1955. She became a Navy wife while Doyle trained and was shipped out to serve on the USS Iowa and the aircraft carrier Forrestal. She was right by his side when he went to DPS School in 1959. They lived in the Houston and Pasadena area, and their four children were born: Johnny, Donna, Jimmy, and Bobby.
In 1965 they moved to Nacogdoches, and Kay began working for the Thompson Insurance Agency. The agency was purchased by Gary Anderson and later Roy Blake. After thirty-six years, Kay retired from the Roy Blake Insurance Agency as a customer service representative/solicitor.
Kay loved life and was deeply convicted serving others. She loved her family and her community. Kay volunteered at Hospice of East Texas, and she was a devoted member of Berean Sunday School class of First Baptist Church, Nacogdoches. When she had free time you could find her crocheting and knitting items, making jewelry, making greeting cards, and reading. She also was a wonderful cook and enjoyed making her famous Sour Cream Pound Cake that won’t be forgotten by her family. If you asked her what her favorite candy bar was she would in no doubt tell you Butterfingers!
Kay is preceded in death by her parents, Loyd and Hazel Knight; brother, Winston Knight; sister, Wanda Sue Denton; and brother, Paul Knight.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Doyle Pittmon; children, Johnny Pittmon, Donna Casey and husband Paul, Jimmy Pittmon and wife Stacy, Bobby Pittmon and wife Olene; 14 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Iva Jo Young, Sarah Nell Jobe, Lucille Preuninger, and Dianne McGrede.
