Larry grew up in Highlands, Texas and graduated from Deer Park High School and then from Stephen F. Austin State University where he met Sandra Reed, his loving and devoted wife of 53 years. He went on to attend dental school at The University of Texas Dental School in Houston and returned to Nacogdoches where he practiced dentistry for 30 years. Because of his gentle nature and integrity he was a beloved boss, dentist and colleague. Larry was a member of First Baptist Church, Nacogdoches Rotary, and numerous civic organizations where his servant’s heart was well used.
“Larry B” as he was affectionately called by many, enjoyed working on his farm, tending his cows, and fishing in the ponds there. It gave him great pleasures as well to allow many to hunt and fish at the farm any time.
Larry loved baseball. His infamous story of batting a couple of times against Nolan Ryan in high school was a personal favorite to make others laugh when he admitted “He never saw the ball!” His love of baseball led him to coach his sons and daughter, of whom he was incredibly proud, and dozens of youth in Nacogdoches for many years. He was a much loved and respected coach as evidenced by former players eagerly coming to visit with him when they would see him at the ballpark watching his grandkids decades later.
“Grandat” especially loved his grandchildren and attending their many activities and sporting events. He delighted in ways to put smiles on their faces and often wore his biggest smile when surrounded by them.
Larry is survived by his wife, Sandra Reed Hancock; son, Dr. Ronnie Hancock and wife Robin; son, Dr. Jeff Hancock and wife Kaycie; daughter, Jan McReynolds and husband Jack; grandchildren, Gray and Garner Hancock, Jake and Andrew Hancock and Reed and Abby McReynolds. He is also survived by uncle, John Graves; sister-in-law, Judy Hancock; brother and sister in law, Frank and Becky Supercinski and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Faye Hancock, and brother, Mike Hancock.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Raymundo Avila, Martha Kennedy and Veronica Wade.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Dr. Hancock’s memory to the Parkinson’s Foundation, Parkinson.org or a charity of your choice.
