Lucille Elizabeth (Carpenter) Stanaland of Garrison passed away March 10, 2021, in Nacogdoches at the age of 80. She was born January 1, 1941, in Trinity, Texas to parents Doyle Columbus Carpenter and Joyce Ida (Dunaway) Carpenter.
Mrs. Stanaland was a graduate of Galena Park High School. She worked for Dr. Donald Cagle in Nacogdoches for many years. She was his surgical nurse and over the years became like a mother figure to him. Lucille was extremely proud of the care she took of their patients over the years as well as the fact that she worked for Dr. Cagle whom she considered to be the best doctor in town and a wonderful Christian man.
At the age of 17, Lucille was united in marriage to T.D. Stanaland on August 23, 1958 in Houston, Texas. He preceded her in death on January 16, 2012. T.D. was the love of her life and they were married for 53 blissful years. Throughout her life Lucille loved to read, garden, and paint. She was happiest when she was able to get outside and work to improve her yard. On days when she couldn’t get outside, she enjoyed reading and painting. If T.D. could cut it out of wood, Lucille would paint it and make it beautiful.
Lucille has always been an avid church member. She loved her church family and never wanted to miss a Sunday. In more recent years, Lucille has also enjoyed spending her time at the Nacogdoches Treatment Center.
