

She was born to the late William and Marion Roziskey on October 26, 1922, in Rochester, NY. Marion was a graduate of Monroe High School where she met her future husband Robert Platt. While in Washington, D.C., during World War II, Marion worked for the Army Map Service. She and Bob were married September 16, 1944, in Washington, D.C. Marion went on to earn a BA in History from the University of Rochester.
Bob was an officer in the Marine Corps and served in WW II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. Marion and he raised four children and made many moves across the country. Often, she had to do theses moves on her own, acting as a single parent while Bob was overseas. During those years she also served as a Red Cross volunteer.
After her husband’s military career, the family relocated to Texas in 1970, eventually settling in the Nacogdoches area on a few acres of land. They became active in the greater Nacogdoches community. Bob was a volunteer fireman when they lived out by the Cushing Y. Marion became a 10,000 hour volunteer at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital. They were members of the Christ Episcopal Church. They enjoyed swimming, playing golf and were members of Piney Woods Country Club. Marion was also devoted to her bridge club. They loved their life and their grandchildren loved to visit.
Bob passed away in 1995. Eventually, Marion moved into town and stayed until 2010. She first moved to Maryland to live with her son Chris, then to Dallas to be near her son Bill.
Marion was preceded in death by her son Kerry Thomas Platt and her husband of 51 years Col. Robert M. Platt, USMC (ret).
She is survived by her children William Platt and wife Marilyn of Dallas, Christopher Platt and wife Lee of Maryland, and Wendy Slavens and husband Del of Virginia.
She is also survived by her grandchildren Amanda, Andrew, Dawn, Kathryn, Elizabeth, James, and Alexander, as well as three loving nieces and one nephew.
A Memorial Service will be held in Nacogdoches at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 7, 2016, at Christ Episcopal Church, with inurnment following at Sunset Memorial Park. Father Michael Caldwell will be officiating.
