Momma passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 10th, 2022, at 10:55 pm after contracting the flu that evaded the vaccine.
On Sunday, June 25th, 1933, she was born to Francis Leroy "Roy" and Mary Nancy Stanley McKeown in Stoney Point, Oklahoma, south of Shamrock. She graduated from Agra high school, Oklahoma. She married the love of her life, Michael Victor Allen, after a short courtship and celebrated fifty-six loving years together until the time of his death.
Momma was a loving woman, an outstanding homemaker, an extraordinary cook, a caring person, and a Christian. She always put others before herself. Due to her devotion to her family, she was awarded best wife for fifty-six years and best momma for fifty-eight years. Momma was a serious, enthusiastic, and accomplished bridge player. She was also a volunteer, most notably at the former Boys Ranch in Nacogdoches, where she adopted a boy each year for whom she provided birthday and Christmas gifts and home-baked goodies.
She raised one son, Michael Shane Allen, in Houston, Texas. At retirement, she moved to Nacogdoches with Mike to be near Shane and spent twenty-seven years here. She joined the Nacogdoches Newcomers and Friends club and established lifelong friendships. She was the club's past president and taught many members to play bridge.
Momma was predeceased by her husband, parents, sisters: Cassie Smith, Wanda Barnes, Wanita Walker, and Jean Rankin.
She is survived by her son and his dog Wyatt Earp, whom she loved to cuddle. Also surviving her are nephews and nieces David Rankin, Sue Thorne, Lonnie "Leroy" Walker, Charles "Henry" Barnes, Chris Gleason, Debi Biner, Patrica Gayle "Patty" Teter, Frances "Franny" Petersen, and many other loving relatives.
It would take pages to list all of mum's dear friends. She loved all of you, and I thank you for being her friend.
I wish to thank Dr. Fearing, the staff of MyMD Select; Dr. Hashim, Dr. Bains, Mary Jo, Karen; and the staff of the Arbor Assisted Living, Carmen; and the staff of Advantage Plus Homecare, the nurses of Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital; and Heart to Heart Hospice.
In lieu of the usual remembrances, donations can be sent to Nacogdoches Newcomers and Friends / P.O. Box 635392 / Nacogdoches, TX 75963-5392.
I will receive Mum's friends and family on Thursday, March 17th, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Home. In consideration of others, please wear masks. Momma will have a graveside service at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery south of Stillwater, Oklahoma, on Saturday, March 19th, at 11:00 am with Ulrik Petersen officiating.
I miss my momma, and I know you do too. I am lonely and lost without her. I honestly did everything I could for her to make her life easier. Have a smile on your face when you think of her. She had a wonderful life.
