

Melba Louise (Looney) Jones, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and faith. Born in Nacogdoches County, Texas on February 19, 1937, Melba was the cherished daughter of Luther Henry Looney and Thelma Lucile Perritte Looney Mooney.
Although Melba married during her senior year and did not complete high school, she was a proud member of the Nacogdoches High School Class of 1955. For many years, she dedicated herself to her family as a homemaker. In 1991, she began a new chapter as a Nutrition Services Team Member for the Nacogdoches Independent School District.
Melba was a woman of faith who loved reading her Bible, watching General Hospital, crocheting, cooking, and baking for those she loved. She devoted herself to helping others as a foster parent, Girl Scout Leader, and Cub Scout Leader for the East Texas Area Council, where she was honored with the District Award of Merit. Melba was a long-time and faithful member of First Baptist Church in Nacogdoches.
Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles Curtis “Buddy” Jones; her daughter, Patricia Louise Jones Wilson; her parents; and her brother, Lindwell Edison Looney.
She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Charles Jones, and his wife Stephanie Nicole Lamberth Jones of College Station; and her son-in-law, Johnny Edgar Wilson of Nacogdoches. Her memory lives on through her grandchildren: Cemanthia Talitha Wilson of Nacogdoches; James-Curtis Silas Wilson and his wife Crystal Dawn Wilson of Newland, North Carolina; and Charley Nicole Jones of College Station. She was also a proud great-grandmother to Cheridyn Tatum Wilson of Nacogdoches, and Lillian Autumn and Charlie Rowan Wilson of Newland, NC. Melba is additionally survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 17, 2025, from 2:00 to 3:00 pm at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Home in Nacogdoches. Funeral services will begin at 3:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Old Union Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the East Texas Boy Scout Foundation, honoring Melba’s commitment to youth and community service.
