Naomi Curington Tinsley, 102, passed on to her reward on August 29, 2018 in Nacogdoches, Texas. Naomi was born October 10, 1915 in Charlie, Texas to Grover Cleveland and Rhoda Tucker Curington. She met her husband Douglas Brown Tinsley in Prescott, Arizona, while caring for the young daughter of a Civilian Conservation Corps Camp officer. Naomi and Doug married in Charlie on December 24, 1936 – their loving marriage lasted nearly 50 years. She devoted her entire life to her family, her church, and community. Her talents were many but she was famous for making award-winning porcelain dolls, quilts, and pies. But most importantly she exhibited her Christian faith in everything she did. Everyone who knew her loved her.
Naomi is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Gary and Edie Tinsley of Nacogdoches and her daughter and son-in-law Mary and Paul Jette of Boerne, daughters-in-law Elsa Tinsley, Austin, and Margaret Tinsley, Beaumont. Naomi is also survived by sixteen of her grandchildren, William Tinsley, Florida, James Tinsley, Dallas, Mike and Natalie Tinsley, San Antonio, Susan Tinsley, Tahlequah, Oklahoma, Mark and Janie Tinsley, Austin, Doug Tinsley, Dallas, Max Tinsley, Austin, David Tinsley, Tahlequah, Diana LaPierre, Los Angeles, Gary Wayne Turner, Larry Joe Turner, San Francisco, Sheri Allred, Houston, Jeff and Lori Tinsley, Garrison, Paul and Christi Tinsley Dallas, PJ and Alaina Tinsley Groves, and Sara Jette, Boerne. Naomi is survived by numerous great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and one great-great-great grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Doug, her daughter Tess, her sons Don and Joe and her granddaughter Vicki.
A celebration of her long and joyous life will be held at 5 o’clock Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel in Nacogdoches. Visitation will be Friday evening, August 31, 2018, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00P.M. at Cason Monk-Metcalf. A graveside service will be held at Leakey Floral Cemetery in Leakey, Texas, at 10:00 A.M. Monday, September 3, 2018.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Tinsley, Chase Tinsley, Logan Jones, Brandon Allred, Doug Tinsley, Mark Tinsley, Mike Tinsley, Max Tinsley, and Kolton Jones. Honorary Pallbearers will be Gary Tinsley, Paul Jette, and Brandon Smith.
