Funeral service for Norma Ann Baxter Flournoy, 83, of Nacogdoches, will be on Wednesday, January 2, 2019, at Cason-Monk Metcalf Funeral Home with Brother Paul Sevar officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, with the service immediately following. Interment will be at Timpson Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Norma passed away on Thursday, December 27, 2018 in Nacogdoches.

Norma Ann Baxter was born on Flower Mountain, Nacogdoches County, Texas on March 26, 1935 to Joe Bingham Baxter and Estalene Wallace Baxter. She was the oldest of four children. Her family moved to Houston in 1941 when she was 6 years old. She was saved at the age of 11 and baptized at Bethel Baptist Church in Houston. She went on to graduate from high school in 1953 then earned her Bachelor’s degree in Education from Stephen F. Austin State Teacher’s College (SFA), and her Master’s degree from Sam Houston State University. She taught elementary students in Aldine ISD in Houston and in 1963 married Clifford Flournoy, whom she met while both were students at SFA. They lived in Irving and Houston for several years then returned to East Texas to settle in the Timpson area where she and Clifford attended Timpson Missionary Baptist Church and Norma taught at Timpson Elementary until her retirement in 1996. After Clifford’s death she moved to Nacogdoches where she lived near her sisters and enjoyed working in her yard and attending Calvary Baptist Church.

Norma is survived by sisters Jolene Conner and Novice Barta, brother Jonathan Bingham (JB) Baxter, nephew Kendall (Julia) Conner and niece Jerri (James) Cleland. She is also survived by numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, and extended family members. She is preceded in death by her parents Joe and Estalene Baxter, husband Clifford Flournoy, and nephew Kevin Conner.

Serving as pallbearers will be Tyler Conner, Cody Conner, James Cleland, Luke Cleland, Marco Hernandez and Chad Riley.

Biography

Norma Ann Baxter was born on Flower Mountain, Nacogdoches County, Texas on March 26, 1935 to Joe Bingham Baxter and Estalene Wallace Baxter. She was the oldest of four children.
