

A funeral service for Robert “Bob” Lee Coleman,86, will be Thursday, October 28, 2010, 10:00 A.M. at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel, Nacogdoches, with Dr. Wayne Barth, pastor of First Baptist Church of Broaddus, Texas, officiating. Additional services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, October 29, at Woodlawn Funeral Home Chapel in Houston. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Garden of Memories Cemetery in Houston, Houston Fire Department and US Navy will be present. Pallbearers will be members of Mr. Coleman's family.
Bob died on Thursday, October 22,2010 in Nacogdoches.
He was born August 21, 1924 in Houston, Texas to parents, George Ben Coleman and Myrtle Lewis Coleman. Bob served in World War ll in the US Navy as a Machinist Mate on the tiny island of Ulithi in the Pacific, maintaining and repairing battleships. In 1945, he married Renie, the love of his life for 64 years. Bob had a lifelong career of nearly 25 years with the Houston Fire Department. He “climbed the ladder” retiring as Senior Captain, having achieved 1st place on the test scores. Upon retirement in 1982, Bob and Renie moved from Houston to the tiny town of Broaddus in the deep East Texas Piney Woods. They lived in their ”Dream House” on the shore of Lake Sam Rayburn for 30 years. Shortly after the death of Renie, in 2008, Bob moved to “Magnolia Court Assisted Living and Memory Care Community” in Nacogdoches. The compassionate care and peaceful surroundings absolutely extended Bob’s time on Earth. Bob’s only complaint in life was “Renie died too soon!”
Bob is survived by his and Renie’s three children: daughter, Barbara Lynn Coleman Jumper; daughter, Linda Lorene Coleman Howard and husband Thomas "Tom" Leslie Howard, Jr., of Chattanooga, Tennessee and grandsons,Thomas Leslie Howard lll and Clayton Coleman Howard; and son, Robert Lee Coleman, Jr. and wife Denise and grandsons, Scott Evan Coleman and Daniel James Lofland; great-grandson Lane Evan Tyler and Lane’s mother, Michelle. Bob is also survived by his sister Audrey Coleman Watrous and husband Marion "Goggy" Watrous, their son-in-law Billy Land and their grandchildren: Christian Robert Land and Cayla Michelle Land; by niece, Sandra Corbitt King and husband Marvin "Buddy" King and their children Lance and Steve King. Mr. Coleman was proceeded in death by his wife Necia "Renie" Lorene Davis Coleman, parents, parents-in-laws, “Dude” Louis Edsel Davis and Aggie Lee Clayton Davis; sister, Dorothy Coleman Huff and husband Garreth Huff; brother Vernon Coleman; son-in-law Douglas Jumper; nephew Johnny Corbitt; and niece Vicky Lynn Watrous Land.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 27, 2010, at Cason Monk-Metcalf.
