Robert “Bob”, best known as Glenn, was born on September 22, 1934, in Brush Creek, Tennessee, to J.C. Neal and Clara “Peg” Bell Vantrease. He grew up in Watertown, Tennessee alongside his two sisters, Sue and Jo. Then Glenn, his mother and sisters moved to Houston, Texas when he was ten. He attended Milby High School in Houston, Texas. Glenn joined the military and served on active duty in the Navy during the Korean War. After active duty he transferred to the U.S. Naval Reserve. Glenn married Eleanor Louise Clarady on September 23, 1955. He loved his family, sports, horses, and dogs. Glenn enjoyed riding his cutting horses, attending Houston Oilers and Houston Texans games and watching the Houston Astros. He was a member of the Oyster Creek United Methodist Church, Lake Jackson Masonic Lodge and National Cutting Horse Association.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Eleanor, parents; his sisters, Sue Lantiere and Jo Carnabuci; and two nieces. Glenn is survived by daughter, Glenda Kelley and husband Gary of Douglass, Texas; son, Rick Neal and wife Laura of Nacogdoches, Texas; grandchildren, Amie Kelley of Douglass, Texas, Joseph Kelley and wife Jessi of Dayton, Texas, and Andrea Evans and husband of Arkansas. Lastly, he is survived by seven great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
His family wants to thank all the doctors, nurses and staff at Nacogdoches Medical Center that took care of him during his illness.
No services will be held, but Glenn will be interred at the Houston National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contribution may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
