Rusty Warren passed away at home on March 26, 2025. He was born on his family’s farm not far from where he lived. Growing up during the Depression gave Rusty the ability to persevere through hard times. He was the youngest son of Robert Coleman Warren and Lillian Mayfield Warren.
Rusty graduated from Freeport High School followed by some college. He met Florence in high school, and they were married. He went on to serve in the Korean Conflict as a sergeant operating the radar and was a member of the color guard. Upon returning, they started their family with the birth of Cheryl Lynette Warren.
Rusty and his family moved to Carlsbad, New Mexico working at the potash mines for a year when his son, Charles Clayton Warren was born. Shortly after Charles was born, the family relocated to Alvin, Texas where they built a house. Rusty began work at Monsanto Agrochemical company beginning as a gang worker where he worked his way up to planner foreman. He retired from the company at age 55 and returned to Douglass with his wife, Florence.
In retirement, Rusty enjoyed living in the country. He loved caring for his pecan trees, roses, and lilies that decorate his lawn today. From time to time, he and his wife would have fun on a gambling trip and visiting friends. His wife, Florence, passed away in 2004. After grieving his loss, he went to visit old friends in Clute who reintroduced him to Bettye, a childhood school friend. They became soulmates and were married in 2007. They enjoyed gardening together, visiting the casinos and gambling, as well as road trips to visit friends across the country. Bettye brought to the family her four children, Butch, Charlie, Terri, and Gwen. Bettye’s children loved Rusty and Rusty loved them. They all enjoyed frequent visits together. Rusty remained living independently after Bettye passed away in 2015. He had a very close friend in Earl Garner who lives nearby. They enjoyed checking hay fields, a attending Douglass basketball games, and catching up on local affairs with a good cup of coffee.
Rusty is survived by his children Cheryl Warren and Charles “Cobby” Warren (wife Laura Warren) and step-children Butch Murrell (wife Carroll), Terri Cardwell-Murrell, and Gwen Jones(husband Mike Jones). Rusty enjoyed his grandchildren, Christine Marsh, Michelle Warren, and Charlie Warren. His great-grandson was named after him Rusty Raines Warren.
