

A funeral service for Roger “Hillbilly” “Shorty” Elmer Brown, 57, will be at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors on Saturday, September 10, 2011, at 4:30 pm with Sonny Scarborough officiating. Private interment will take place at a later date.
Roger passed away on September 7, 2011 in Angelina County. He was born on January 19, 1954 in Davenport, Iowa to parents Robert Brown and Viola Younker.
“Shorty” was known as the outdoor type. He loved fishing, B-B-Q’s, and the Rodeos. Roger never met a stranger, was honest as the day is long, hardworking, and an avid 42 player. He was fun loving and showed others how to have fun. He has worked in the tree service industry for over 24 years. He was a heavy equipment operator, an amazing mechanic, and will be deeply missed by those who knew him. He served his country in the Navy during the Vietnam War. He was happily married to Arrie for 38 years. Military Rites will be performed by the Navy following the service in the Sunset Chapel.
He is survived by his wife, Arrie; brothers David Brown of Washington, John Brown of Kentucky, Jimmy Brown and wife JoAnn, Russell Brown both of Iowa; sister’s, Beverly, Linda, Shirley, Peggy Brown all of Iowa; mother, Viola Martin of Iowa; niece, Cathy Schooley and husband Ted of Woden; great niece Randi Letts, great -niece Josie Schooley; numerous nieces and nephews and his ever faithful pets “Lady” and “Socks”. “Shorty” is preceded in death by his father, Robert Brown and Uncle, Elmer Brown.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 9, 2011, at Cason Monk-Metcalf from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm.
