

Sue Parsons was born in Memphis, Tennessee on October 14, 1933. She passed away peacefully on May 22, 2025 in Nacogdoches, Texas, her home for 38 years.
Sue grew up in Memphis and later moved to Kentucky with her husband, Bill Parsons. She always wanted to be a teacher and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and French from the University of Louisville and then a Master’s Degree in English from Western Kentucky University. She taught High School French and English for many years and later taught in the English Department at Stephen F. Austin State University when they moved to Nacogdoches.
She was a devout Christian and devoted much of her time to her church. She belonged to many church groups and was especially committed to groups that focused on helping others. She loved music and playing the piano and she sang in church choirs all her life. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church choir and the Heart to Heart Chorus.
She was also active in many community organizations, such as the American Association of University Women and The Dilettante Study Club.
Sue is survived by her daughter, Kathy Gilbert & son, John Parsons and his wife Tana Parsons, her grandchildren: Ryan Gilbert, Stephanie Gilbert (Shaun), Bailey Parsons & Hank Parsons. She was also recently blessed with a great-grandchild, Sophia Mandelkorn.
Sue was preceded in death by her loving parents, Walter & Leola Grimes, her beloved husband of 61 years, Bill Parsons, and her son-in-law, Arnold Gilbert.
Our family would like to express our sincere gratitude to the staff of The Arbor Assisted Living and Memory Care for their compassion, patience and support over the last two years. We appreciate the kind care that was given to Sue.
A Memorial Service will be held at First United Methodist Church in Nacogdoches on Saturday, May 31 at 11:00 a.m. She will be interred in Sunset Memorial Cemetery beside her beloved husband.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the First United Methodist Church, Nacogdoches, Texas.
