She was born in Nacogdoches, Texas, the only child of Jesse L. Henigan and Lois (Clarke) Henigan. She grew up in Nacogdoches, graduating from Nacogdoches High School in 1958. She earned a B.A. from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1961. She was extremely proud of her hometown and its rich history. It was there she met the love of her life, Ronnie Manchester. They were united in marriage on July 20, 1961.
First and foremost, Susan was a wife, mother and homemaker. Grounded and steadfast in her Christian faith she routinely studied scripture, fervently prayed for others and was an active member in the United Methodist Church serving in both U.M. Army and UMW. Other affiliations were D.A.R. and A.A.U.W.
Amiable and quick with a smile, Susan enjoyed the opportunity to meet new people and made scores of friends throughout her many travels. Susan cultivated many lifelong relationships. It brought her great joy to foster them through written correspondence, phone calls and visits. Particularly interested in genealogy, she was a committed archivist and enjoyed documenting her family’s history to share with future generations.
Susan was preceded in death by parents Jesse and Lois Henigan, half-brothers O.J. Henigan, Leonard Jesse Henigan, half-sisters Hazel Dean Henigan Scott and Jean Henigan Lowe. She is survived by husband, Ronnie Manchester of Brenham, son Ron Manchester and wife Tammie of The Woodlands, son Mark Manchester and wife Lendy of Nacogdoches, six grandchildren, one great grandchild and sister-in-law Cleo Henigan of Weatherford
Her ashes will be laid to rest at Oak Grove Cemetery (200 N. Lanana St., Nacogdoches, TX. Graveside Service will be held on Monday, June 28, 2021, at 10 am. Reception to follow at Perritte Memorial United Methodist Church (1025 Durst St., Nacogdoches).
