Truitt Monroe Brewer, II, resident of Stonewall, Oklahoma, formerly of Houston/Nacogdoches, Texas, passed away on February 8, 2022 at home at the age of eighty-three. Monroe was born in Nacogdoches, Texas on November 30, 1938.
He graduated from Nacogdoches High School in 1957, and then attended Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas, where he was an All American Football player. He graduated in 1959. After graduation, he served honorably in the United States Army in the 101st Airborne Division – “The Screaming Eagles.” He married his college sweetheart, Geneva Ann Bowles, on May 16, 1959. After the Army, he attended the University of Houston and played the position of tight end for the university’s football team, The Houston Cougars. As an adult in Houston, he embarked on a journey of entrepreneurship by establishing his own commercial printing company – Piker Printing, 1981. Monroe worked and grew Piker Printing until his retirement in 2006.
Monroe was known for his positive attitude, contagious laugh and sense of humor, loyalty to family and friends, and his love for life. As a young man, he was an enthusiastic fisherman, hunter, and sports fanatic. In retirement, Monroe became an avid golfer and he and his wife, Geneva, began to travel. Monroe truly enjoyed the simple things in life…a good conversation and laughing, holding his wife’s hand while they bird watched, visiting with their friends, and watching his grandchildren at sporting events.
Monroe was first and foremost a family man and prioritized his family above everything else. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-two years, Geneva Ann (Bowles) Brewer; father Truitt Monroe, Sr; mother Bertha (Johnson) Brewer; and sister Rebecca Louise (Brewer) Smith.
Monroe is survived by his daughter Teresa Marie (Brewer) Schroeder and her husband William; sons James Markum Brewer and his wife Lauri; and Truitt Monroe Brewer, III; brother Frank Brewer; sister Jeannine McEwin; grandchildren Mackenzie Nicole (Terry) Rushing, Chelsea Brie’ (Schroeder) Thomas and her husband Geoff, Megan Marie (Schroeder) Landreth and her husband David, Thornton Monroe Brewer, and Isabel Pearson (Brewer) Powers and her husband Breck; and great-grandchildren Baylor Scott Ward, Chloe Savanna Rushing, David Axton Rushing, and Sebastian William Fitzgerald Thomas.
We know that God is pleased to have one of His kind and generous angels back in His arms, where he belongs. Monroe will be greatly missed by those on earth.
