After graduating from high school, he attended The University of Texas at Austin, where he earned both a Bachelor of Science degree and a Juris Doctor degree. During his professional career, he worked as an attorney and also managed rental properties.
Walter Stearns Simonds Jr. is survived by his wife, Philis Johnson Simonds; his sons, Wes Simonds and Mathew Simonds and wife, Carrie Simonds; and his grandchildren, Kate Simonds and Jack Simonds.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Jane King; and his brother, Bil Wayne King.
Walter enjoyed many hobbies throughout his life, including basketball, gardening, and cars, especially Ford Mustang automobiles. He was actively involved in organizations such as Kiwanis, Lamp-Lite Theatre, and the SFA Tip-In Club.
