

Funeral services for Wilcy Joseph Champagne Sr. of Nacogdoches will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 20, 2012, at Calvary Baptist Church, 3732 Northeast Stallings Drive in Nacogdoches, with Brother Paul Sevar presiding. Interment will follow at Bethel Cemetery in Appleby, Texas.
Mr. Champagne was born November 18, 1932, at home in Mt. Airy, Louisiana, and died Tuesday, October 16, 2012 in Slidell, Louisiana.
He resided in Nacogdoches for many years before he moved to Slidell, Louisiana. Mr. Champagne taught Industrial Arts at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, Louisiana, and worked for many years at Avondale Shipyard as a safety inspector in New Orleans, Louisiana before moving to Nacogdoches. While living in Nacogdoches, Mr. Champagne taught Industrial Arts at Nacogdoches High School.
Mr. Champagne was an extraordinary and committed husband and father who shared his knowledge of and love for Jesus Christ and His teachings with his family and countless others. He was a faithful servant who dedicated his life in service to the Lord and thought first of others putting their needs ahead of his own.
Wilcy Champagne was preceded in death by his loving wife, Octavia Sandlin Champagne, of Natchitoches, Louisiana, on January 15, 2004. Wilcy and Octavia met while students at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches and were married on December 19, 1954.
Wilcy will be remembered by all who knew him as a faithful and loving father and friend.
Survivors include his children, Wilcy Joseph (Joe) Champagne Jr., Cynthia Champagne Beasley, Ronald William Champagne, and Aric Huland Champagne; his grandchildren, Joshua Wayne Beasley and his wife Anna, Nathan Robert Beasley, Ethan Grant Champagne, Colin Samuel Champagne, Ava Jean Champagne; great-grandchildren, Gregory James Beasley, Audrey Elizabeth Beasley, and Lillian Neves Beasley; sisters, Elaine Ocmand and Beverly Brady; as well as a multitude of neices, nephews, students, church family, and friends.
