Born on August 4, 1952, in Oregon, Allie spent much of his life in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He was the son of the late Allman Todd Jr. and Lillian Felix Todd and was raised with a deep appreciation for family, education, and service to others. Allie dedicated his professional life to education and spent many years serving students and families as a school administrator with Waterford School District in Michigan. After relocating to Naples, Florida with his beloved wife, Sharon Prentice Todd, he continued his work in education with Collier County Public Schools. He believed deeply in the power of learning and took great pride in helping young people reach their potential. He was also a proud alumnus of the University of Michigan and remained actively involved in the University of Michigan Alumni Association in Naples.
Beyond his career, Allie was known for his warm heart, quick smile, and love of automobiles and music. A true car enthusiast, he could always be counted on to appreciate a beautiful automobile and enjoy conversations with fellow enthusiasts. Those who knew him best will forever smile when they hear Louis Armstrong's “What a Wonderful World,” his signature karaoke song. In many ways, that song reflected how Allie viewed life— with gratitude, optimism, and joy. He loved traveling the world with his parents and later with Sharon, creating cherished memories and embracing new cultures along the way.
Allie is survived by his devoted wife, Sharon Prentice Todd; his sons, Albie Todd and Jonathan Todd, both of Michigan; his brother, Deane Todd of Missouri; and many extended family members, friends, former colleagues, and students whose lives were enriched by knowing him. He was also deeply loved by Sharon's children, Geoff Prentice and Jenny Prentice McGrath. To their children—Emma and Lucas Prentice, and Caitlin and Morgan McGrath—he was simply “Grandpa Allie,” a role he treasured and one that brought him immeasurable joy. His love, guidance, humor, and steady presence will remain with them always.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the fall, with details to be shared at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Allie’s memory to the University of Michigan Scholarship Fund, Christ Child Society, or Habitat for Humanity of Southwest Florida.
It was a more wonderful world because Allie was in it. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever carried in the hearts of all who knew him.
