Bertha "Bert" Broyles McDaniel

Bert was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, the daughter of Norris and Eva Broyles. She was a resident of the Naples community since 1973 when Bert and her husband Neal McDaniel arrived there to open a travel agency for an Ohio firm. After establishing themselves in their profession and acquiring many new friends and trusting clients, they formed their own agency, McDaniel Travel, which prospered for several decades until her retirement.

Always the intrepid traveler, Bert had an innate curiosity about the world and a keen interest in its people and cultures. She visited every continent and major destination, including Antarctica, with a sense of adventure and a joy for discovery.

Bert was a great friend to many. She welcomed all sorts of accomplished and interesting people into the warmth of her friendship and maintained those relationships with selfless grace, good cheer, and a generosity of spirit.

Bert was also a devoted member of Trinity-by-the-Cove Episcopal Church which was a source of great comfort and fellowship to her and her husband.

Bert was predeceased by her husband Neal in 1989. She is survived by her brother Norris A. Broyles, Jr., age 97 of Atlanta; niece Nancy Broyles James, her husband Doug and son Robin of Atlanta; nephew Ed N. Broyles, his wife Cathy, and Ed’s son Nash of Seneca, SC; nephew Norris A. Broyles III, his wife Kathy, their children, Gray, Edwin, Virginia, Frank, and Able of Atlanta.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to those who served Bert so lovingly in the final years of her life.

Tributes to the memory of Bert may be directed to Trinity-by-the-Cove Episcopal Church, Naples, Florida, the Humane Society of Naples, or an organization of your preference.

A memorial service for Bert will be held at Trinity-by-the-Cove Episcopal Church on Wednesday, August 5 at 1:00 p.m. with reception to follow in the Parish Hall.
