He was born in Sicily, Italy on April 15, 1931, to Marco and Nunzia Marsala. Calogero grew up working the family farm in Sicily. After WWII he moved with his family to Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he owned operated a small bus company, in 1962 he moved to Brooklyn NY, met and married Concetta Baio on May 4, 1963. In 1973 Calogero and Concetta moved their family Staten Island where they raised their six children. After 30 years of marriage Concetta and Calogero relocated to Florida. In 2018 after Fifty-five years of marriage Concetta Marsala predeceased him.
Calogero commenced his US working life in the construction industry. His Entrepreneurial spirit led him into many successful business ventures in including his legacy business family business Marsala Ristorante & Pizzeria.
Calogero was deeply devoted family man. His life centered around his children and grandchildren. He loved to tell everyone he spoke with about his children and grandchildren. He was a people person. He never met a stranger. He was always engaging and cared to get to know everyone as person and learn about their family. His family reached far beyond his large biological family, everyone of his customers were adopted into his family. Even at his advanced age he never forgot a face and always opened a conversation asking about your family.
He is survived by his six children, Marco (Jennifer), Charles (Karen), Christopher (Deborah), Nancy Gagliardo (Gary), Louis (Natalie) and Stephen, seventeen grandchildren, two great grandsons and his sister Maria Mangiavillano.
A Visitation will be held from 3-9pm Friday February 25, 2022, at Hodges Funeral Home at Naples Memorial Gardens, 525 111th Ave North, Naples, Florida 34108. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 9am Saturday February 26, 2022, at Our Lady of Light Catholic Community, 19680 Cypress View Dr. Fort Myers, Florida 33967 and a Committal to follow at Naples Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Our Lady of Light Catholic Community.
