David Grover Burns, 68, of Naperville, Illinois, and Naples, FL passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday March 23, 2022. He was born in El Paso, Texas on January 29, 1954 to the late Vivian (née Weeks) and Grover Audie Burns.
David was the cherished husband of Carolyn (née Peters) Burns, and beloved father of Laura Burns.
David grew up in Overland Park, KS, and was a 1972 graduate of Shawnee Mission East High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Kansas State University. As an avid technology enthusiast, David quickly transitioned into the field of information technology, working with First Chicago (now Chase) Bank and CSC Consulting Group. His true passion career, though, was the one he took on in 1996: that of full-time stay-at-home Dad, in which he also took on the roles of co-Brownie leader and room parent.
David met the love of his life, Carolyn, in Kansas City. They were married in Wildwood, Illinois in 1986. They moved to Naperville, IL, where their daughter was born and raised, in 1988. In 2011 they made Naples, FL their primary residence, while keeping a summer home in Naperville. Last May they celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary.
David proudly served in the Air Force branch of the armed forces from 1972-1976.
David (known to most friends as Dave) enjoyed billiards, bowling, and parties. He will always be remembered for his delightful sense of humor, acceptance of everyone he encountered, and gregarious personality.
The family is planning a celebration of life in lieu of a funeral.
