Donna Broughton Thompson

Donna was born on June 11, 1937 in Marblehead, MA. She was the daughter of the late Glover “Dill” Broughton and Victoria Mezquita Broughton.

After graduating from Marblehead High School, Donna attended The Rhode Island School of Design, graduating in 1959 with a BFA in Painting. She also earned a Masters in Education from Salem State College. After college, Donna joined the US Navy and served at the Pentagon before marrying David R. Thompson.

Donna spent 25 years as an art teacher in the Danvers, MA public school system, also serving as a tireless negotiator for the teachers union. After retiring, Donna moved to Naples, FL and continued teaching as a volunteer ESL instructor.

She was a devoted member of AA, serving as sponsor, mentor and friend to the community in both Marblehead and Naples. Donna loved the ocean and the beach, subjects that featured prominently in her prolific seascape paintings throughout the years. She was also an expert Scrabble and cribbage player and never encountered a word game she couldn’t master.

Donna is survived by her two children, son Alexander (wife Heather and daughter Daisy) and daughter Laura (wife Wendy). She was preceded in death by her sister Louise Broughton Lawler and brother Glover Fulford Broughton.

The family will hold a private burial in Marblehead.
