

Janice was born in Detroit, Michigan to Ralph and Minnie Hutchings on August 2, 1940. She went to Denby High School. While attending West Suburban Nursing School in Oak Park, Illinois, she met her future husband, Hudson Harrison. Hudson and Jan were married on June 17, 1961 in Detroit, Michigan. She received a bachelor’s degree from Aurora University, and a master’s degree in psychology from Wheaton College.
In the midst of caring for her husband, parents, children, and grandchildren through the years, Jan loved reading, cooking, gardening, antiques, music, tennis, snow skiing, golf, and traveling. She enjoyed spending summers with her family by the lake in Michigan and winters in Florida.
Jan was known for her generosity and hospitality. Her heart and home were always open for guests. She welcomed family and friends with delicious food, beautiful table settings, flowers, and most of all - love.
Jan poured out her life in service to others, especially those who were hurting and vulnerable. She served at her church leading in women’s Bible study, the divorce care group, and the high school youth group. She served foster care children through Royal Family Kids and CASA Kane County. She counseled many people through difficult seasons in their lives - offering empathy and wisdom.
Jan’s faith in Jesus was the foundation of her life. This faith helped her to persevere through life’s challenges. God was the source of the love, compassion, and grace that she offered to others.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Minnie Hutchings, and her brother, Ralph Hutchings.
Janice is survived by her husband, Hudson Harrison; children, Beth Dorsey, Joy (John) Lockner, Christine (Brad) Anthony, Matthew (Michelle) Harrison; grandchildren, Jack, Matthew, and Mitchell Dorsey, Anneliese, Osten, and Hudson Lockner, Shelby, Noah (Hannah), Sophie, and Isaac Anthony, Ian, Conor, and Maggie Harrison; sisters, Cheri (Norman) Howarth, and Debbie (Jack) Hoehl; and sister in law, Audrey Hutchings.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, September 7 at 11am Central time at Chapelstreet Church, 2300 South Street, Geneva, Illinois. A light luncheon will follow the service.
