Laurie was a woman of remarkable strength, grace, and character—a devoted mother, loving wife, loyal friend, stylish fashionista, and proud baseball mom whose warmth and spirit touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Laurie is survived by her loving husband, Tom Lind, with whom she shared nearly 24 years of marriage; her beloved son, Gavin, who was her greatest treasure; her father, Rudy Alzaga of Barre, Vermont; and her brother, Paul of Barre, Vermont.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Monique; her aunt, Yvette; and her cousin, John. Laurie also shared a special bond with her Aunt Renie and her cousins Margo, John, and Marsha.
Born on July 7, 1964, Laurie grew up in Barre, Vermont, where she attended Spaulding High School and Bay Path Junior College. After working in Maine, she moved to Naples, Florida, and joined Kurtz Homes Naples as office manager in 1998. A dedicated and valued employee, Laurie considered her coworkers a second family and especially treasured her relationships with Angie, Mark, and Stephanie.
Laurie and her dear friend Michael Dowling shared more than 30 years of holidays, milestones, laughter, and treasured memories. They loved beginning each day with email exchanges about news and family events. Michael nurtured Laurie’s love of design and fashion, as well as her natural gift for decorating.
Laurie had a rare gift for seeing the best in everyone. Her positive spirit, compassion, and kindness left a lasting impression on family and friends alike. Through Little League and travel baseball, she formed many enduring friendships, including her cherished “Book Club” with Mary Ellen, Lisa, Leanne, Brandy, and Maiken.
Laurie loved decorating for every holiday and had a true talent for creating beautiful tablescapes. For Laurie, every gathering was a photo opportunity, and her home was filled with pictures, candles, scents, flowers, and the unmistakable care she brought to every detail.
Above all, Laurie’s greatest devotion was to Gavin. Guiding his life, supporting his dreams, and ensuring he had every opportunity were her deepest priorities. She was immensely proud of his achievements, which led him to Tufts University to study Chemical Engineering and play baseball.
When she was not cheering from the stands, enjoying an espresso martini or margarita, or spending time with those she loved, Laurie could often be found shopping. A shopper extraordinaire, she delighted in finding a great bargain and sharing that joy with others.
Laurie’s strength and resilience were evident throughout her 20-year battle with cancer. She met life’s challenges with courage, dignity, and an unwavering sense of love for her family and friends. She taught lasting lessons in compassion, character, and kindness, including one of her favorite reminders: character is who you are when no one is looking.
