Robert “Hank” Thompson, of Simsbury, CT and Naples, FL passed away on April 4, 2024. Hank was born March 9, 1939 to the late Lucy Lamson Thompson and Herbert Winslow Thompson in Lewiston, Maine.

Raised in the Winthrop, Maine area, Hank attended Winthrop High School, where he was Homecoming King, President of his Senior Class, Captain of the football team, and played varsity baseball and basketball. He earned his BA in Math and Physical Education at the University of Maine in Orono where he met his beloved wife, Helene. He played varsity baseball and was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. For two years, he taught Physical Education and coached basketball and baseball at Monmouth Academy in Monmouth, Maine. After moving to CT., he earned his MA in Math at UCONN in Storrs, CT, and his 6th year in Math at St. Joseph College in West Hartford, CT. At Farmington High School, he taught Math for 27 years, two of which he was head of the department. He also coached football and baseball, was President of the Teachers’ Association for two years and Head of Negotiations for several years.

After retiring in 1992, he and Helene wintered in Naples, Florida. Hank was an avid card player, enjoying especially bridge and poker, and known affectionately by friends and family as “cardshark”. Golf and bowling were also his passions. He was an avid Red Sox, Patriots, and UCONN men’s and women’s basketball fan. He enjoyed traveling, especially to Russia, China, Italy, Greece, Scandinavia, and various places in the U.S. His favorite foods were lobster and Neapolitan flavored ice cream.

He is survived by his loving wife Helene of 59 years, his two beloved daughters Karen Ann Schmidt of Gahanna, Ohio, and Kelly Lynn Condon and husband Steven of Wethersfield, CT, four beloved grandchildren Haley and Tanner Schmidt, and Kayla and Jaime Condon, niece Emma Morin of Augusta, Maine, and nephew Carlton Pratt and wife Jean of Winthrop, Maine.

He was predeceased by sisters Gladys Pratt and Lois Cote, and brother Russell Thompson.
