On January 8, 1941, Susie was born to William Barnard Craig and Margaret Mae Manuel in St. Louis, Missouri. Her dad was a civil engineer in the Army, so her childhood years were spent living in different places around the country. In 1963, she graduated cum laude from Wake Forest College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. In August of that same year, she married her husband, Dr. Ralph Dotson, who she met in college, and they married in Falls Church, Virginia.
In 1965, Susie and her husband, Ralph, moved to England and lived there for 3 years while he was serving in the US Air Force as a medical officer. In their free time they travelled to and explored several countries in Europe. Upon returning to the US they moved to Miami, Florida where her 2 children, Lisa and Stephen, were born.
The family moved to Naples in 1973. Susie was the medical transcriptionist for her husband’s practice until his retirement in 1998 and was a wonderful mom. She and her family were members of the First Presbyterian Church in Naples. She met a life-long group of friends there and she loved playing Canasta and having lunch with them and spending time with her family. She also enjoyed traveling and, especially, later in life, traveled the world to places like Patagonia, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, the Galapagos Islands, China, etc.
Susie is survived by her husband of 62 years, Dr. Ralph J. Dotson, her son, Stephen Craig Dotson, her daughter Lisa Dotson Meloche, married to Gerald (Jerry) Meloche, and her grandson Travis Gerald Meloche.
There will be a memorial service at First Presbyterian Church of Naples at a later date after which she will be laid to rest in the church’s Memorial Garden.
Susie will be loved, remembered and missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her for her warm, contagious smile, her generosity, kindness, and genuine concern for others. She was a wonderful, selfless wife, mother, and grandmother.
